Indian Classical Sitarist and Performer

 Arup Ratan Mukherjee Sitarist

Born in the ancient city of Pataliputra, Arup Ratan Mukherjee is an accomplished Indian classical sitarist whose musical journey reflects a deep commitment to the rich traditions of Hindustani classical music.

His innate musical sensibility and early aptitude for the sitar were nurtured under the guidance of his mother, Smt. Nilakshi Mukherjee, followed by the tutelage of the esteemed Late Arun Kumar Chatterjee.

In August 1986, Arup Ratan Mukherjee became a devoted disciple of Pandit Jotin Bhattacharya, a distinguished disciple of Baba Allauddin Khan Saheb of Maihar. Under the profound guidance of his Guru, he immersed himself in the discipline, aesthetics and spiritual depth of Indian classical music, dedicating his life to the preservation and practice of the traditional sitar repertoire.

Rooted in the Senia Beenkar Gharana tradition, his musical approach reflects the richness of the Guru-Shishya Parampara, emphasising authentic musical knowledge, refined technique, raga development and the expressive depth of Hindustani classical music.

As a professional sitar player and performing artist, Pt. Arup Ratan Mukherjee continues to share the timeless beauty of Indian classical music through sitar recitals, live performances, cultural programmes and musical collaborations. His artistic journey represents a continuing dedication to India’s classical musical heritage and its appreciation by audiences across the world.

Alongside his performing career, he is committed to passing on the knowledge and discipline of the sitar to dedicated students, helping preserve the traditional values of Indian classical music for future generations.
